    Advocacy

    How a Bill Becomes Law       2      4

    Basic Beginnings for Advocacy

    What is Advocacy?

As early childhood professionals, members of local associations, and a state association we are advocates supporting children and those working with the children. This takes place on all levels but begins first with some basic steps and understanding.

    ·         Know and understand your regulations

    ·         Licensing Protocal- This is a great tool to review as a local association, in a

group, or by yourself. This can be found on the VA DSS Website

    ·         Know your Legislative Representatives- Visit Virginia Online Legislature:   http://virginiageneralassembly.gov/

Click on “WHO’S MY LEGISLATOR’ on the top of page on the right.
The Virginia General Assembly web site provides contact information for legislators, access to bills and resolutions, membership on committees, committee schedules, and much more.

    E-mail Addresses for Legislators:

    House of Delegates: del(first initial)(last name)@house.state.va.us

    Senate of Virginia: district(__)@sov.state.va.us

Note: The parentheses ( ) indicates information that varies for each legislator. For House of Delegates, del stands for delegate. Then use the first initial and last name. For Senator, insert the two digit number for the Senator’s district. HouseHou

Do not include the parentheses in the e-mail address.
